Meet Ms. Mamay!

Meet Ms. Mamay!
Posted on 09/24/2019

Dear MVE Parents,

I am pleased to announce that we have hired our 5th Kindie teacher for the 2019-20 School Year.  As a commitment to you, the families, I pledged to keep class sizes small. With new Kindie enrollments since the beginning of the year, and our classes pushing 25 each, I decided to act and hire now, so I am able to keep my promise to you.

Our new teacher is Emily Mamay, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her as part of the MVE team!

I asked her to tell you all a little about herself:

Hello!  My name is Emily Mamay and I was born and raised in East Hampton, NY, where most of my family still resides.  I am one of seven children... six girls and one boy! I am also a twin. The newest addition to my family is a rescue puppy! His name is Vader (yes, like Darth Vader), and he is a German Shorthair Pointer mix.  Most of my life has been spent in NY, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Japanese Language and Culture from SUNY University at Albany. I spent several years after college living and working with in Japan teaching English in kindergarten, elementary, and junior high schools. After returning to the states, I earned my Master's Degree and Dual Certification in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Hofstra University.  I moved to Raleigh, NC in the Fall of 2017 with my sister where I lived and taught kindergarten for two years before moving to Aurora, CO in the summer of 2019.   I speak Japanese and have studied four other languages throughout my time as a student. Some of my favorite things include Disney, tea, popcorn, puzzles, reading, and training my dog.  I am so excited to be joining the team at Mountain View Elementary School for the remainder of the year!

Now down to the logistics!

  • I have already contacted the families who have students moving to Ms. Mamay’s class.

    • If you have not heard from me, your child will remain in their current class.

  • Students will transition to Ms. Mamay’s class on October 2nd, 2019

    • Ms. Mamay is attending a Professional Development Training with the Kindie team on September 30 & Oct 1.

    • If you would like to meet and chat with Ms. Mamay, she will be available during our Parent/Teacher Conference times:

      • October 1 5:00pm-7:00pm

      • October 3 4:00 pm-7:00pm

  • If your child will be in Ms. Mamay’s class, you will still sign up for and attend Parent/Teacher Conferences with your child’s current teacher.

  • To ease in the transition, on October 2nd, students will be walking to their current teacher’s classroom when they arrive to school.  They will receive a special call over the announcements and will walk as a class to their new room with Ms. Mamay.

    • For those of you who remember the tape for the Kindies to follow at the beginning of the year, we will put down new tape from the office to Ms. Mamay’s for students to follow.

    • Moreover, to celebrate Kindies on October 2nd, we will be having a pajama & popsicle day!  ALL kindies can show their Kindie pride, by wearing their jammies to school!

  • Ms. Mamay’s website will be up and running on September 30th.  Here is a link to Kindie Teachers’ Websites.

  • Finally, specials.  Since we now have 5 kindies classes, we need 5 specials to accommodate them!

    • The new special available for Kindies will be called Learning Commons/Social Emotional Learning (LC/SEL for short).  LC/SEL will be part of the Kindies Specials rotation and will consist of extra read-alouds from our Librarian, Mrs. Forrest, and Social Emotional Learning (via the Second Step Curriculum) from our Counselor, Ms. Roth.

    • The new specials schedule can be found HERE

    • Ms. Mamay’s rotation is LIGHT BLUE.

Again, I am so thankful to be able to provide small classes for all our Kindies; Ms. Mamay’s will be capped at 15 students for the whole school year.  Please reach out if you have any questions or thoughts, as my door is always open.

Love & Laughter,

Millie Grotts
