Ms. Kanani: School Counselor
About Me
My name is Kanani Cullum I am the School Counselor here at Mountain View Elementary! As the School Counselor, my goal is to advocate for an equitable and effective learning environment for all students. Through the implementation of a Comprehensive School Counseling Plan, I aim to decrease learning barriers by addressing the academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary needs of the students of MVE. Using the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework, my services include:
Tier 1: Classroom Guidance Lessons on a variety of topics including friendship, identifying emotions, Zones of Regulation, empathy, kindness, perseverance, study skills, career goals, transitional programming (moving between grade levels), and more.
Tier 2: Small Group Counseling including psychoeducational topics such as friendship, emotional regulation, family changes (divorce, blending families, etc.), conflict resolution, grief, self-esteem/self-image, etc.
Tier 3: Individual Counseling that is Solutions-Focused, brief, and short term.
Consultation with parents, teachers, and administrators to assist in meeting individual and schoolwide student needs.
Coordination of referrals to school and community agencies as requested.
Collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, and community members to ensure our students are ready as they move on to their next big adventure!
