Douglas County School District Special Education Mission Statement

Student Focused, Service Oriented

The Special Education Department provides a variety of quality educational programs dedicated to meet the unique needs of all learners by creating optimum learning experiences and providing a world class education supported through research-based interventions and quality staff development.

"When inclusive education is fully embraced, we abandon the idea that children have to become ‘normal’ in order to contribute to the world. … We begin to look beyond typical ways of becoming valued members of the community, and in doing so, begin to realize the achievable goal of providing all children with an authentic sense of belonging.” - Norman Kunc -

Mountain View Special Education Team

The Special Education Team at Mountain View is a multidisciplinary team of educational professionals who work together to meet the special needs of our diverse learners.  Each of our team members comes with different background, perspectives and expertise.  We provide services in multiple areas, including academics, speech and language skills, fine and gross motor skills, and social/emotional skills.
