Curriculum and Resources

Language Arts

At Mountain View we prepare our young students for life beyond the classroom through critical thinking.  MVE teachers teach each child at his or her instructional level. In reading, writing, phonics and grammar, teachers use Benchmark Workshop as a foundational resource.  Students take part in readers' and writers' workshops to achieve these goals. Students are taught mini lessons that model and explore research-based strategies. Students then apply the strategies taught in mini-lesson and guided groups in their independent work. Each child has individualized goals and receives personalized support during the independent time of the workshop.  At the end of each workshop students are encouraged to reflect on their learning.

Math

At MVE we value critical thinking and problem solving in math while exploring real world situations and applications. We also know  that it is important to teach students how to begin reasoning as they explore the areas of number sense and computation. We use the Enivison Math resource as a school because it is grounded in research-based strategies of visual and problem based learning for primary students.   Our students explore multiple ways to solve problems, and students are encouraged to explain their mathematical thinking.

Science and STEAM

At MVE we value the learning that takes place in Science and support this content through a separate Specials Class, as well as weekly STEAM sessions.  Students explore science through the process of inquiry. Students generate questions about the world around them as they engage in hands-on experiments and investigations that challenge and spark their curiosity.  We use StemScopes Science as a curricular resource.

Social Studies

At MVE social studies concepts are woven throughout our literacy learning. Students also explore what can be learned from the past and how they can demonstrate civic responsibility.  Throughout K-2nd grade, social studies is integrated into other content areas including learning about geography and economics.  Learning about being a safe, respectful and responsible citizen is emphasized daily through our PBIS program!
