Student Blog
We challenged MVE students to write in a way they not normally be exposed - a BLOG!  Students were given a couple of constraints:

the topic had to be Mountain View,
their post had to be at least 6 sentences,
they had to delineate if it was fiction or non-fiction,
they had to complete the work on their own time,
and
had to meet a deadline!

The 2nd graders who post are all volunteers!  No matter their writing ability - they are challenging themselves both in a new creative arena as well as in time management.  1st graders who post were nominated by their teachers!  Check back each Friday (starting Friday Feb 16th, 2018) for our newest post.  You can also subscribe to our blog to get the new posts pushed to you automatically!  We hope you enjoy our STUDENT BLOG!

A Typical Day at the Mountain View School for Dogs

By: Abbey R.

Hi everyone! I’m Abbey, a 7-year-old Husky. I go to Mountain View School for Dogs and I love it! A typical day begins with Ms. Rudy, my teacher, welcoming us to the classroom. She teaches us lots of tricks and ways to behave. I have lots of friends in my class! My best friends are Peanut, a black lab, and Lulu, a yellow lab. Everyone in the class gets along and are friends!

We go to PE in the morning. There, Mr. Bull and Mrs. Bull, English Bulldogs, teach us valuable exercises. We run and jump and play lots of fun games!

Then it is time to line up and head back to the classroom. We have work time and practice tricks! Then it’s time for lunch. After lunch we go to recess where we are free to run all over the playground! Sometimes I swing for the whole recess! Other times I play soccer. I like swinging the best though! After a couple minutes we go in, put our coats on our hooks, and start our jobs. Everyone has a different job to do for the classroom. Once we are done with those, we get to do puzzles!

After puzzles we pack our backpacks and head out the door and go home!  Mountain View School for Dogs is the best school ever!

“I love coming to Mountain View each day”
by Trent D.
2nd grade

In the classes at Mountain view you will learn math, reading, literacy writing, and a lot more. Every week at Mountain View you have a different Specials class. I like all my Specials teachers because they are nice and fun.  I also like all the different activities we do in the classes.  My favorite Special is P.E, because we play sports like soccer, dodge ball and running.  Some other fun activities at Mountain View during the year are the Fund Run, Book Fair and Games Day.  The Book Fair is where parents volunteer to set up books for us to look at and buy.  I love to read the Magic Tree House books.  In the Fund Run, you can run laps to raise money for the school.  Running is one of my favorite things to do.  After school there are also special activities called S.T.E.A.M that I like to do.  So far I have been in Sticky Fingers, Lego Club and Tech Ninjas.   My favorite S.T.E.A.M activity has been Tech Ninjas because I built a robot out of foam, soda caps and cups.  The robot walked across the table and floor.  I love coming to Mountain View each day!

                                               My Day At Mountain View

                                              By: Jaxon H.

First, we do Super Skills. Super Skills are another form of doing math. We all do 2 pages and then we do jam and minutes. Jam and minutes are activities where 2nd graders go to different classes and lead in exercises. Then we go to specials. We have Art, P.E, World cultures and Music. Once we're done with specials, we go back to the classroom. In class, we start with writing and then we get to go to lunch. After lunch we go to recess, my favorite part of my day. After recess it's back to the classroom. In class we do literacy centers. Literacy centers are where kids are separated into groups and the centers are "read to self", "teacher table", "writing", "words their way" and "computers".  After literacy centers, we go out to 2nd recess. After 2nd recess we come in and do math. Once we finish math, we do PDL. PDL is where some kids go to different classrooms and others stay in our classroom and use computers. Then we pack up for the day and get ready to go home. That's my day at Mountain View.

My Wonderful School

By Eliana J.

Once upon a time there was a school and this was no ordinary school  it was a school with Unicorns! The unicorns princess her name was princess Penelope. All the unicorns loved her and treated her like their master. One day when Penelope was feeding the unicorns a meteorite  hit the school. Now they lived near the Equator, so it was normal for the meteorite to hit because it was the closest place to outer space. “Ya, Ya!!”, said Penelope. Everyone was safe soon and they all built a new school. It was glorious and they named it Mountain View Elementary. At MVE, there was even a stall for all the unicorns!!   Later, they moved the Mountain View Elementary to Australia, so they would not have anymore meteorites. Two days later Penelope became queen, they had a ceremony and had a great day. Sadly, four years later she passed away in a war in 1822. Two weeks later they got a new queen her name was Queen Isabella. The unicorns got used to her and had a great time. She made great laws like eat cotton candy whenever you want! Now... HOW COOL IS THAT!!! Their school was very fun, so were the teachers. Everything was great until… WAR AGAIN! This war started in 1824. Good thing they won. And guess what? They found the same man who shot Queen Penelope! He was put to… DEATH! There was no more war! Yippee! Said everyone they had a great time they sang, they danced, they even had cake! They were glad they had won war and deep in their hearts they could hear Penelope saying, “Good job, you did great!” Even now you can see the unicorns dancing happily ever after at Mountain View Elementary.

THE END!!!!

My Dad's Visit to Mountain View
by Mason G.
2nd Grade

On Wednesday, March 28th, my Dad came to Mountain View Elementary School to talk to my class about safety.  He got to meet with the students of Ms. Smith and Ms. Krause in the gym, along with their reading buddies.  My dad is a police officer in Parker.  He talked to us about what police officers do in our community, and how they keep everyone safe.  We were all very good listeners and asked questions on how police officers help people.  My dad gave everyone an oath promising to be good listeners and friends.  After that, we all got official Parker Police badges.

Mountain View Elementary: The Best School Ever!

By: Trevor L.

Mountain View is an elementary school with kids in preschool through second grade.  Students at MVE rock when they are learning. For example, the second graders help the school by leading in activities like Cub Club, where the members help those in need. Mountain View is a great school to learn at, with wonderful teachers that help all students learn.  Also, Mountain View has great specials like Art, P.E. and World Cultures. P.E. helps you get a good exercise, and helps others in need like Jump Rope for Heart. In Art, we get to make projects for our parents to see. It is the best school ever because there are great things to do at school like write books, do projects, and read fluently. This is what you do at Mountain View!

“My First Day at Mountain View”
By:  Madeline D., Mrs. Horber’s Class

My first day at Mountain View was a great day!    I started right after the winter break.  I had been going to American Academy since Kindergarten and my parents decided it was time to move to a closer school.  The first day of my new school, I did not want to go to school.  I didn’t know anyone!  The first day I was shy.  I was also scared! Turns out I had a really nice teacher.  I made new friends immediately and fit right in.  I got invited to birthday parties right away!  I had fun learning and I had a great rest of the year.  I LOVE Mountain View!

On Wednesday the 2nd graders had a stuffed animal sleepover. The sleepover party was so much fun. First, the stuffed animals ate pizza. Next, they read some books. After that, they did some word work and played LEGOs. Then finally they went to bed. The next morning, we all got to find our stuffed animals in the classroom and spend the whole day with them.  I found my stuffed animal in the marker basket.

Hi, my name is Cam.
And I'm going to tell you about one of my school days.

When I got to my class room I unstacked my chair. Then I got out my super skills and did two pages. When I finished my super skills I sat at my seat until we went to P.E. The thing I love about P.E is my teacher is really funny. And  he sometimes let's us play whatever we vote on. When we were in P.E we were playing basketball working on drills. After, we did basketball drills we played red light green light with basketballs. Then we played normal red light green light. Then, we lined up to go back to class. When I got back class we started writing. After, writing we went to lunch. After, lunch we went out to recess. I played basketball. After, recess we went inside to do literacy centers. My favorite center is book club. Only my  group does book club because I'm in the highest reading group. After, centers we went out to second recess. My recess is about ten minutes. When the whistle blew we lined up. Our door holder opened the door. When we got inside we did math. After, math we did PDL for 30 minutes. After, PDL we packed up and went home. That's one of my days at Mountain View Elementary.

"All About Teachers"
Trynity B.
First Grade

Mountain view teachers help kids learn and develop us into smart, happy and nice kids. The teachers here are cool and have great personalities.  Teachers are a very good thing to have and allow us to learn about so much.  We are so lucky to have world cultures as it is a unique class helping us better understand other ideas and people. All the teachers here are sweet especially Ms. Kastanek.  This is a very good school; I’m very glad I came here and I wish I never had to leave.
Thank you for coming to Mountain View, teachers.

"I Love Mountain View"
by Cayden B
2nd grade

I love Mountain View.  Our school, Mountain View, is fun!  If you come to Mountain View, you will learn more.  All of the specials are great.  My favorite special is World Cultures, because I can learn Russian.  All of the teachers are very nice. The three teachers that I like the best are Mrs. Horber because she is very nice, Mrs. Liedell because she was my favorite Kindergarten Teacher, and Mrs. DePas (Kastanek) because of "purple whale."  We passed "purple whale" around and told each other about our weekend.  Mountain View is a friendly school.  We will make you feel welcome!  Now you know all about Mountain View!
